What is your listening style

What is your leadership style? A common question for all. But have you ever reflected on,
what is your 'listening style'?

Otto scharmer and his team at mit developed the 4 levels of listening model, which is a valuable tool for developing effective leadership skills and driving organizational change, as many failures at work can be attributed to a lack of listening and understanding.

To create a culture of learning whether you a senior, aspiring or a team leader
a culture of listening is important.

Distinguishing your style of listening will lead you to act meaningful and create a culture where people thrive.

Level 1. Downloading:
what: filtering incoming information through preconceptions, biases, and assumptions.
When a leader needs to quickly make a decision or confirm existing knowledge.

Level 2. Factual listening:
what
: listening for facts, data, and evidence to inform decision-making.
When leaders need to gather data and information to make informed decisions.
Eg. Say to gather information about customer preferences or market trends to inform a new product launch.

Level 3. Empathic listening:
what
: listening with an open mind and heart, seeking to understand the speaker's perspective and empathize with their feelings and experiences.
When leaders want to build relationships, gain understanding, and connect with others.
Eg: to build trust with team members or to better understand the perspectives of stakeholders in a negotiation.

Level 4. Generative listening:
what
: listening for the emerging future, tuning in to the deeper collective wisdom and potential of the group.
When leaders want to facilitate innovation, creativity, and co-creation.
Eg. To foster a culture of collaboration and generate new ideas for addressing a complex problem
