The last question asked in the Interview & Top mistakes people make

How did it go, Prakash? I think I have done a blunder, Deb. I asked the wrong question at the end of the interview!

Any interview is like a mini-trip.
If the start defines the trajectory, then the end
defines the experience.
The last question Seals the Deal.

TOP MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE AT THIS STAGE
( Curated from my experience. I say what I see):

❌Not taking permission/acknowledging the interviewer to ask the question.
❌Not acknowledging the facts shared in the conversation and drawing a reference to the question.
❌Asking questions that focus only on your needs and not the company's

A️Example A:
Interviewer:
Do you have any questions for us?

Any Candidate:
How much vacation time will I get?

This example is problematic because the candidate did not ask for permission to ask the question, and the question itself is focused on personal benefits rather than the job or the company.

Instead, it's better to ask for permission to ask a question, and frame the question in a way that demonstrates your interest in the job and the company:

B️Example B:
Interviewer:
Do you have any questions for us?

✅Smart Candidate: Thank you, I do have a question. Can you tell me more about the company's approach to work-life balance and how it supports employees in taking time off?

✅✅Senior Candidate:
Appreciate you giving me a quick walkthrough about the future of your organisation, but I do have a question. I am curious to know more about the company's approach to work-life balance and how it supports employees, especially those working remotely in taking time off?

So next time even if you are not asked this question directly, take permission, show curiosity about the ‘future’ in the business at your level ( people/team/project/business) and yes
Do not forget to thank the interviewer.
Who knows you might end up working with this person for a very long time.
